We have said it many times: the more technology advances, the more competent the car thieves are in the hi-tech field. It is a marathon in which the one who is one step ahead, even the smallest, in the context of automotive technological know-how wins. Car thefts continue and, above all, those involving cars that disappear into thin air in different areas of Italy and in different ways are growing. But how many thefts occurred in 2020 e which are the most stolen cars in Italy? Let's find out now!
Despite the lockdown there was no shortage of car thefts. They have certainly decreased in percentage terms compared to the previous year, but there have been some, and not a few: the figures tell us that the stolen cars in Italy were about 75 thousandThis is an immense number when one considers that they are even -24% compared to 2019 and that we lived several months at home. However, the theft of unrecovered cars hovering around 28 thousand (-26% compared to the previous year). On average, 2 out of 3 cars today are no longer returned to the owner due to the direct sales in foreign markets or the parts business. The figure is even more frightening when we consider that over a million vehicles including cars, scooters, SUVs and trucks have been stolen in the last ten years.
in the list in fact, we go from the classic Panda (in first position) passing also by Nissan Qashqai and culminating on BMW X5. But let us see specifically the ranking of the most stolen cars:
The entire podium is won by the Fiat with models Panda, 500 e Point with 7415, 6889 and 5252 respectively. They are followed by Lancia Ypsilon, Vokswagen Golf, Smart ForTwo, Renault Clio, Ford Fiesta, Opel Corsa and closes the top-ten again Fiatwith the model One.
Among the SUV once again confirms the extensive research of Nissan Qasqai, which on 2687 Sport Utility Vehicles is the most stolen with well 555 unit. Next among the most coveted are Range Rover e Hyundai Tucson completing the podium with 229 e 166 units. Closing the circle of the most stolen SUVs is the BMW X5 with 42 unitsstill a diamond for the ill-intentioned.
Among the less stolen cars and therefore probably safer, instead we find the VolvoIt is nothing new, in fact, that the Swedish company uses systems innovative anti-theft devices inside their vehicles, guaranteeing a traditional safety offering among the brand's core values. To follow surely Audi always thanks to the development of sophisticated anti-theft devices, up to Mazda which is increasingly attentive in the provision of state-of-the-art anti-theft system.
Top of the list of the least stolen cars are luxury brands such as Ferrari e Lamborghini for obvious reasons: what thief would go unnoticed following the theft of these types of cars, which are rare to see on our roads? The same goes for brands for which there is little knowledge and consequently little demand such as Acura e Tataof which there is practically no distribution even abroad.
As we said at the beginning of the article, the exponential growth of technology supports not only car and anti-theft manufacturers, but also experienced thieves, and it is becoming increasingly easy to devise even the most unpredictable burglary methods. For example, in a few previous articles we talked about how it is now child's play to steal a car with an immobiliser: replacing a car's control unit with a blank control unit nowadays makes it very easy to start the car. This is why, we always remember, investing in a sum of anti-theft vouchers can be the right way to prevent an event that is certainly not pleasant also in terms of cost character and loss of capital.
As you could see in this article, the numbers of thefts in Italy are not in favour of security and peace of mind, so choosing a device to protect your vehicle is always a good idea!
